To all the coffee enthusiasts out there, this is a treat. Whipped coffee, also known by its formal name Dalgona coffee, is a quick, easy drink recipe made with only three simple ingredients.
“I’ve heard of whipped coffee, and it definitely sounds interesting,” junior Hildi Hutchinson said. “I’d be willing to try it. It’s coffee, and I love coffee, so there’s no way it could be bad.”
Whipped coffee can be an energizing start to the morning. After trying whipped coffee, senior Abbey Wilson said that although she isn’t a coffee person and that whipped coffee wasn’t her favorite, she still had fun making the recipe.
“The perfect occasion to drink whipped coffee is probably in the morning right before school,” Wilson said. “Sometimes you need a little pick-me-up before a long day.”
Some people may find whipped coffee useful for late night studying. Caffeine allows a tired student to stay awake a little longer than normal to cram in that last minute studying. However, be cautious when drinking caffeine at night because caffeine can mess up your sleep schedule.
“I personally wouldn’t drink whipped coffee at night for a snack,” Hutchinson said. “However, if I’m attempting to pull an all-nighter, I’d definitely have some.”
Whipped coffee became a popular trend on TikTok. During quarantine, many people were experimenting with the recipe.
“I heard about whipped coffee from social media,” senior Mackenzie Miller said. “Making and sharing this drink was a fun way to keep us entertained and productive during quarantine.”
1 tablespoon of instant coffee (I personally used Nescafe)
1 tablespoon of sugar (any kind should be fine)
1 tablespoon of boiling hot water
2/3 a cup of almond milk or regular milk
Pour the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water into a bowl
The recipe says whisk for five minutes, but I personally had to whisk for eight minutes. You can whisk by hand or use a mixer. A mixer would probably be easier and faster.
Pour 2/3 milk into a cup (I used 2/3, but you can adjust according to how much of each ingredient you use)
Pour the whipped coffee over the milk and mix it in a little bit
One Bear’s Notes
For more coffee, add two tablespoons of each ingredient, but some people might think that’s too much.
It may end up needing to be mixed a little longer than the suggested time or a little shorter, depending on the type of ingredients you used.
The consistency of the mixture does not have to look exactly like the photos. It’s okay if it’s a little more liquid-like than the photos; it should still taste the same.
If the coffee is too bitter, add extra sugar or coffee creamer for more sweetness. Like regular coffee, experiment until it is perfect.
