Two weeks completely free of school work, early alarms, and commitments can lead to unmade plans and empty days. Below are 10 things you can do to fill your time over winter break.

  1. Painting. Painting expresses creativity and creates a peaceful environment. One can paint their own design, us an image, follow a Bob Ross tutorial, or even visit Painting with a Twist, 1402 N Loop 336 W, Conroe, TX 77304.
  2. Gingerbread Houses. Decorating gingerbread houses is a traditional holiday event. The decorating can be a friendly competition between friends or family. 
  3. Mini Golf. Located in downtown Montgomery between the Ransom’s steakhouse and Fernland park is Longview Greens Miniature Golf, 735 Clepper Dr, Montgomery, TX 77356. Longview Greens is Texas-themed and offers sweet treats such as ice cream and shaved ice.
  4. Movie Night. Friends or Family movie night is a great option for a more relaxed event. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Disney Plus offer a variety of movie genres. Snacks for movie night include but are not limited to popcorn, candy, soda, cookies, or fruit. 
  5. Ice Skating. Montgomery unfortunately does not reach low enough temperatures for a natural frozen body of water, so indoor ice skating rinks are the next best option. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion located at 2005 Lake Robbins Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381 , offers an ice rink from early Nov. through Jan. The price for two hours of skating is $12.50.
  6. White Elephant Gift Exchange. White Elephant is a form of gift exchange where participants bring a wrapped gift, serious or humorous, draw a number, and go in order of said number drawn. Participants take turns either opening a new gift or “stealing” one previously opened. Once a gift is stolen twice it is locked in and cannot be stolen again. 
  7. Volunteer Work. There are many places around Montgomery and Conroe area that are in need of volunteers. Animal Shelters, food banks, and libraries. Volunteering over break also counts toward volunteer hours for organizations such as National Honor Society.   
  8. Bake. Baking something you’ve tried before allows you to develop new skills. There are hundreds of recipes online for different desserts such as Christmas cookies, banana bread, or even pies.
  9. Reorganizing Room. Organized environments decreases stress and makes the room a calm place to stay. 
  10. Breakfast with Friends. Whether you make breakfast or go out to a restaurant, eating a meal with friends allows you to spend quality time together. Breakfast also is an easy event to that cooperates with busy schedules. Breakfast places around Montgomery and Conroe include Panera, Magnolia Diner, IHop, 105 Cafe, Cracker Barrel, and Waffle House.
